Tigers Earn Tie at Harvard
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (2/11/11) - Mike Kramer and Rob Kleebaum each scored twice for the 20th-ranked Princeton men's hockey team in a 4-4 tie with Harvard on Friday night at the Bright Hockey Center. Princeton had three one-goal leads in the tie, but couldn't hold off Harvard in the tie.
Princeton and Harvard traded goals in the latter part of the opening period as Kramer's 10th of the year at 15:17 of the period opened the scoring as he put in the rebound of an Andrew Calof shot. Kevin Ross also assisted on the goal. Harvard answered less than three minutes later as Conor Morrison scored from the goal line after Princeton goaltender Sean Bonar had been bumped by an inadvertent Princeton stick and was stuck out of position.
The teams traded two goals apiece in the second period, each converting on a two-man advantage to move to 2-2. Harvard's Daniel Moriarty gave the Crimson the 2-1 lead a minute into the second period on the 5 on 3, but Kleebaum answered for Princeton five minutes later as Princeton skated with two extra men. Taylor Fedun and Eric Meland had assists on the goal as Meland won an offensive zone faceoff to Kleebaum, who exchanged the puck with Fedun before scoring through a screen.
Princeton regained the lead at 12:27 when Kleebaum netted his second of the game and sixth of the season on a play from the goal line. On the forecheck, Meland caused a turnover and fed Jack Berger, who quickly moved the puck on the backhand to Kleebaum for the goal. Harvard however countered less than two minutes later on the power play when Chris Huxley's point shot found its way through a screen and knotted the game at 3-3.
Princeton again took the lead in the third period when Kramer netted his second of the game and 11th of the season midway through the third off of a neutral zone faceoff. Calof won the draw to Ross, who fed Kramer on the opposite side, where he skated into the zone and beat Kyle Richter with a shot just inside the far post.
Harvard though drew even with the game-tying goal at 14:05 with its third power-play goal of the night. Huxley took a point shot that Alex Killorn redirected in the slot to beat Bonar.
Shots were tied at 33-33 in the tie, with both Bonar and Richter making 30 saves apiece in the deadlock. Princeton was 1 for 5 with the power play, while Harvard went 3 for 5 on the power play.
Princeton is now 14-8-2 overall and 9-6-2 in the ECAC. Princeton is now tied for fifth in the ECAC standings with Cornell, a point behind fourth-place Rensselaer and two behind third-place Dartmouth.
