PRINCETON, NJ – Junior forward Kelly Zajac had a goal and three assists, including the last of four unanswered goals in the second period to help lead No. 11 Union (19-7-3, 11-3-1 ECAC Hockey) to a 7-4 win against No. 19 Princeton (14-7-1, 9-5-1 ECAC Hockey) in front of 1,691 fans at Hobey Baker Rink.
The Dutchmen scored six unanswered total after falling behind
4-1 in the second period.
Senior forward Adam
Presizniuk got things started for Union, firing a loose
puck in the slot past Princeton goaltender Mike Condon at 9:23 of
the second period.
With Princeton forward Taylor Fedun in the penalty box for
tripping, sophomore forward Jeremy
Welsh took a cross-ice pass from senior forward Stephane
Boileau and fired a one-timer past Condon at 11:10.
Union would tie the score with another power play goal, after
Princeton's Andrew Ammon was whistled for boarding at 11:35.
Presizniuk took a pass from Zajac off the wing and fed sophomore
defenseman Greg
Coburn from behind the net. Coburn fired a slapshot from
outside the circle past Condon on the near post at 13:14 to tie the
game at 4-4.
Two minutes later, the Dutchmen would have the lead, as
sophomore defenseman Shawn
Stuart's shot from the point was batted down by Zajac
past Condon at 15:46, giving Union the lead.
Freshman forward Daniel
Carr scored his team-leading 16th goal of the
season at 11:59 of the third period to give Union a two goal
lead.
Freshman defenseman Mat
Bodie sealed the win the for the Dutchmen at 17:18 with
an empty net goal.
Princeton took the lead on their first power play opportunity
of the game after solid defensive play by both teams in the first
15 minutes of the game. With Carr in the penalty box for slashing,
Eric Meland's shot from the high slot was deflected by Jack Berger
at 17:18 of the first period to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.
Just 44 seconds later, the Dutchmen answered back. Junior

Zajac fed senior defenseman Brock
Matheson, who fired a low wrist shot from just outside
the circle past Condon to even the score at 18:02.
Though the Dutchmen opened the second period with a power
play, it was the Tigers who would capitalize on a two-on-one.
Princeton leading point-scorer Andrew Calof followed a rebound on
an initial shot from Kevin Lohry, beating sophomore goaltender
Keith
Kinkaid low at :50 to give Princeton a 2-1 lead.
The Tigers went up 3-1 on an even strength goal by Mike
Kramer, who deflected a shot from the point past Kinkaid at
3:27.
With freshman forward Daniel
Carr in the penalty box for elbowing, Princeton
capitalized on its second power play of the night at 7:36, as
Taylor Fedun fired a slapshot over the glove of Kinkaid for a 4-1
Princeton lead.
But Union would storm back on their way to a fourth straight
victory.
Kinkaid (18-7-2) made 28 saves, stopping all 11 shots in the
third period to earn his 18th win of the season.
The Dutchmen will take on Quinnipiac tomorrow night at 7:00
p.m.
