Union Comes From Behind to Defeat Tigers

PRINCETON (2/4/11) -- Eleventh-ranked Union rallied from a three-goal deficit and scored six-straight goals to defeat the 19th-ranked Princeton men's hockey team 7-4 on Friday night at Hobey Baker Rink. Princeton led 4-1 in the loss before the Dutchmen staged the comeback.

Princeton scored three goals in the first eight minutes of the second period to turn a 1-1 tie after one period into a 4-0 Princeton lead. Andrew Calof scored his fifth goal of the year on the rebound of a Kevin Lohry shot 50 seconds into the period while shorthanded and Mike Kramer's ninth goal of the season at 3:27 made it 3-1 as his quick shot off the rush caught Union goaltender Keith Kinkaid off guard. Taylor Fedun scored his seventh goal of the season on the power play at 7:36 when his point blast beat Kinkaid.

Despite the Tiger offensive outburst at the start of the period, Union was outshooting Princeton at the time and the Dutchmen stormed back with four straight goals in the period. Adam Persizniuk started the comeback with his ninth at 9:23. Union's potent power play then drew it even as Jeremy Welsh and Greg Coburn both scored power-play goals at 11:10 and 13:14 to knot the score at 4-4. Union then went ahead for good at 15:46 when Kelly Zajac redirected a Shawn Stuart point shot for the go-ahead goal.

Daniel Carr and Mat Bodie added insurance goals in the third period. Bodie's scored into an empty net. Eric Meland and Brock Matheson traded first period goals in the game, with Meland scoring his seventh of the season on the power play.

Zajac led all players with four points on a goal and three assists. He was one of four Dutchmen with multiple points, along with Presizniuk, Carr, Bodie and Welsh. Calof and Kramer each had a goal and assist for the Tigers, while Derrick Pallis, Cam Ritchie and Matt Godlewski added Princeton assists.

Kinkaid made 28 saves for the win while Mike Condon stopped 25 in the loss. Shots were even at 32 in the game.

Princeton falls to 14-7-1 overall and 9-5-1 in the ECAC with the loss, while Union is now 19-7-3 overall and 11-3-1 in league play. Princeton now sits in a tie for fourth-place with Saturday's opponent Rensselaer, which skated to a 3-3 tie on Friday night at Quinnipiac.
