ESTERO, Fla. -- The Cornell men's hockey team fell to
eighth-ranked Maine, 3-2, in overtime, on Thursday afternoon in the
consolation game of the Florida College Classic at Germain Arena in
Estero, Fla. For the second straight night, the Big Red fell in
overtime after carrying a lead into the third period.
Nick
D'Agostino and Chris
Moulson scored goals for the Big Red on the night, with
Greg
Miller adding in the only assist for Cornell. Mike Garman
stopped 29 shots in the losing effort for the Big Red.
For Maine, Will O'Neill led the way with a pair of assists, and
the Black Bears got goals from Mark Anthoine, Robby Dee and Matt

of overtime. Four other players added a single assist on the day
for Maine. Martin Ouelette stopped 21 shots in taking the victory
for Maine.
Cornell finished the night scoreless in its only power-play
attempt, while Maine was successful on one of its five chances with
the man advantage.
Maine got on the board first at the 1:55 mark of the first period
when Anthoine scored his first goal of the year, but it took the
Big Red less than three and a half minutes to tie the score when
D'Agostino scored his fourth tally of the year, with Miller picking
up an assist on the play. In the second, Moulson, playing in his
first game of the year, scored a goal when he poked his own rebound
back into the goal on a wrap-around, as Cornell took a 2-1 lead
just 1:01 into the second period. That lead would stand into the
third period until Dee's power-play tally knotted the score at two
and sent the game into overtime.
In the extra session, Mangene scored his first marker of the year
at the 2:39 mark to give Maine the victory, with Spencer Abbott and
Gustav Nyquist picking up assists on the game-winner.
Cornell returns to action on Friday, Jan. 7, when it travels to
Princeton to resume ECAC Hockey play. The Big Red will then take on
Quinnipiac the following night in Hamden, Conn.
