Princeton Falls to Brown

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (10/30/10) - The Princeton men's hockey team dropped its second straight 2-1 decision to open the season on Saturday afternoon to Brown at the Ivy Shootout at Ingalls. Matt Arhontas picked up his second goal of the season in the loss.

Arhontas put Princeton ahead 1-0 early in the game converting on Princeton's second shot of the game for his second goal of the season. Derrick Pallis and Andrew Calof assisted on the goal to give the Tigers their first lead of the season. It was the second assist of the season for Calof.

Brown evened the score late in the first period when Jesse Fratkin scored his first of the season from Harry Zolnierczyk and Bobby Farnham. Princeton outshot Brown 10-6 in the opening period but the frame ended with the score even at a goal apiece.

The teams battled through a scoreless second period that saw each team fire nine shots on goal. Brown broke the stalemate 43 seconds into the third period when Jack MacLellan picked up an unassisted goal. Princeton looked to draw even late as MacLellan was assessed a boarding major with 6:47 left in the third period, but Brown was able to kill the ensuing power play and hold on for the win.

Princeton outshot Brown 29-23 in the loss. Mike Condon made 21 saves in the loss while Marco De Filippo stopped 28 shots for the win.

Princeton is now 0-2-0 overall and opens the ECAC schedule next Friday night at Yale.
