NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (11/23/10) – The Colgate men’s hockey team scored two power play goals for the second-straight game, but couldn’t hold off the scoring attack of Niagara as the Raiders fell, 4-2, at Dwyer Arena.

Colgate (2-8-1) saw sophomore Robbie Bourdon (Montreal, Que.) score his third goal in the last three games, while senior captain Brian Day (Danvers, Mass.) netted his team-high sixth of the season. Junior Alex Evin (Castlegar, B.C.) took the loss in net with 28 saves.

Niagara (7-4-2) got a great performance from the Zanette brothers as the pair scored three of the four goals by the Purple Eagles. Paul Zanette tallied his nation’s leading 13th and 14th goals of the season, while Mark Zanette scored the early in the third period. Carsen Chubak got the start in net and made 15 stops. Chris Noonan relieved Chubak at the 10:30 mark of the second period and made 20 saves.

After a scoreless opening period, the Raiders struck first on the power play with a goal from Bourdon. He extended his point streak to a career-high five games, while potting a goal for the third-straight game. Juniors Kevin McNamara (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) and Austin Smith (Dallas, Texas) assisted on the play.

Colgate was awarded a 5-on-3 power play a minute later and fired six shots on net that Noonan stopped. The only puck to get by the Purple Eagle netminder was a shot from McNamara that hit pipe and deflected away from the cage.

Niagara answered with 3:04 remaining in the second as Zanette scored his 13th goal of the season to tie it at 1-1. With the goal, Zanette gained sole possession of the top goal scorer in the nation. Bryan Haczyk and Jason Beattie were credited with the assists.

Marc Zanette gave the Purple Eagles their first lead of the game at 2-1, 2:01 into the final period. Jeff Hannan and Giancarlo Iuorio were given assists on the play. The Raiders fired back with a power play goal with 10:40 left in the game to tie the game at 2-2. Day netted the goal with Bourdon adding the assist to give him a team-high two points on the day. Both points came on the man advantage.

The Colgate momentum lasted only 33 seconds as Ryan Annesley scored the gamewinner at the 10:07 mark. Matt Willams was given the assist as Niagara gained the lead once again at 3-2. Paul Zanette iced the game with his second goal with 42 seconds left on an empty net tally to close the scoring at 4-2.

The Raiders once again outshot their opponents as Colgate posted 37 shots to 32 for the Purple Eagles. The Raiders went 2-for-6 on the power play tonight and kept Niagara off the board on four opportunities.

The Raiders will be back in action Saturday night in Newark, N.J., as Colgate takes on Cornell in a non-conference matchup at 7:30 p.m. at the Prudential Center. Fans can still purchase tickets through the Prudential Center Box Office or Ticketmaster.
