Dartmouth Wins Exhibition Shootout

HANOVER, N.H. In a high-flying exhibition game that featured 13 goals, the Dartmouth men's hockey team took a 7-6 win over Quebec Three Rivers on Sunday afternoon in Thompson Arena.

Seniors Rob Smith (Brooks, Alta.) and Kyle Reeds (St. Louis, Mo.) potted two goals apiece for Dartmouth while QTR netted a hat trick by Francis Charland

In just its third time on the ice since practice began Friday afternoon, the Big Green put up 35 shots over the three periods while getting scoring production from all four forward lines to start the 2010-11 season.

Quebec took an early two-goal lead but Smith and Reeds tied the game before Matt Reber (Edina, Minn.) gave Dartmouth a lead it would never relinquish late in the opening stanza.

Rookie Cab Morris (Wilmette, Ill.) backstopped the Big Green in the first period as the freshman goalie got his first time between the pipes. Morris made seven saves his 20 minutes of work.

Nick Walsh (Shannonville, Ont.) from Paul Lee (Garden City, N.Y.) put Dartmouth up by two in the second before Jean-Sebastien Breton potted one of his two goals in the contest. Matt Lindblad (Winnetka, Ill.) made his presence known with a terrific goal off a pass from senior defenseman Evan Stephens (Bessemer, Mich.).

Charland ended the period with his second of the night as the Big Green took a 5-4 lead into the break.

Reeds and Breton each scored midway through the final frame, a mere 16 seconds apart. Charland tied the game at 15:04 before Smith put it away for Dartmouth at 16:01.

Jody O'Neill (Nepean, Ont.) was the goalie of record in the second period as he made five saves. James Mello (Rehoboeth, Mass.) recorded the win as he was in net for the third period, making six saves.

Dartmouth continues with preseason play as the Big Green travels to New Haven on Saturday, Oct. 23 for a scrimmage against Yale. Dartmouth begins the regular season at the Ivy League Shootout on Oct. 29 and 30.
