Colgate Skates Past Brock

HAMILTON, N.Y. (10/16/10) – The Colgate men’s hockey team got down 2-0 early, but scored three unanswered goals in the final two periods to defeat Brock University, 3-2, in an exhibition matchup at Starr Rink.

The Raiders were led by three different goal scorers, including a power play goal by senior Francois Brisebois (Montreal, Que.). Rookie Mike McCann (Barrington, Ill.) and senior Kevin McNamara (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) had the other two scores for Colgate with McNamara adding the gamewinner in the third. Senior Bryan Bessette (Melrose, N.Y.) pushed aside 15 saves in two periods of play, before being relieved by Eric Mihalik (Avon Lake, Ohio) who made seven saves in the third.

Brock, which is located in St. Catherines, Ont., was playing their lone game in the United States and got a goal from Matt Abercrombie and Jordan Gignac. Kurt Jory got the start in net and made 17 saves in the first period. Vince Cusick was in net for the final two periods and made 26 stops.

Each team went 1-for-7 on the power play and Colgate had a 46-24 advantage in shots.

The Raiders will jump back into regular season play next weekend with a visit to Lake Superior State for two games, beginning on Friday night at 7 p.m.
