Princeton Rolls Over UMass Lowell
PRINCETON (12/11/10) - Matt Farris, Derrick Pallis and Rob Kleebaum each scored two goals as the Princeton men's hockey team completed a weekend sweep of UMass Lowell with a 7-2 win over the River Hawks on Saturday night at Hobey Baker Rink.
Princeton jumped on the River Hawks early and click all night in the win as 10 players recorded points in Princeton's largest goal total of the season. Brodie Zuk and Farris led the charge with three points each as Zuk collected three helpers and Farris had two goals and an assist.
Farris put the Tigers ahead 2:26 into the game when his backhander beat UML goaltender Doug Carr. Pallis made it 2-0 in the Tigers' favor at 6:49 when he netted his first of the season on the power play off a feed from Andrew Calof.
UML trimmed the lead to a goal with a goal less than a minute later but the Tigers scored three straight goals to start the second period to build a 5-2 lead before a late goal made it 5-2 at the intermission.
Fedun scored the eventual game winner 32 seconds into the second period on the power play when he collected a back door pass from Mike Kramer and put it in for his third goal of the season. Kleebaum scored three minutes later when he put in the rebound of a Kevin Ross shot Farris scored on a deflection midway through the period, also off a Ross shot on the power play.
Princeton sealed the win with two goals in the first minute of the final period. Pallis scored his second of the game 33 seconds into the stanza when he knocked in the rebound of a Zuk shot and Kleebaum one-timed an Eric Meland pass 16 seconds later for the seventh Princeton goal.
Mike Condon made 24 saves in the win for Princeton while Carr stopped 26 in the loss. He was relieved late in the second period and Marc Boulanger stopped eight shots in relief.
Princeton is now 8-5-0 overall and has the next three weeks off before resuming action at the UConn Hockey Classic on Dec. 29 and 30.
