Leblanc, Walsh Attendees at Canadiens' Camp
MONTREAL --The Montreal Canadiens announced today that 40
prospects, including Harvard incoming freshman Louis Leblanc and
Dartmouth incoming freshman Dustin Walsh, will participate in the
team’s annual development camp from July 6-12, at the Bell
Sports Complex, in Brossard. It is the most players attending since
the first edition of the Canadiens development camp in 2001.
The Canadiens prospects will first take to the ice on Monday, July
6. The development camp consists of on-ice sessions every day until
July 12 with on-ice sessions on both surfaces of the Bell Sports
Complex. Off-ice conditioning sessions are also scheduled every
day. An intersquad game is scheduled for Saturday, July 11.
Leblanc, who was selected with the No. 18 selection in the first round of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, became the first Quebec-born player drafted by the Canadiens in the first round since the Quebec Remparts Eric Chouinard, who was selected 16th overall by Montreal at the 1998 draft. In 60 games with the USHL’s Omaha Lancers this past season, Leblanc put up a team-high 28 goals and 59 points.
In the sixth round, with the 169th overall pick, Gainey and Co. staked their claim to Shannonville, ON native Walsh. The 6-foot-2 centerman spent the past season tearing up the OJHL, posting a team-high 63 points in 44 games for the Kingston Voyageurs, including 32 goals
