All-League & All-Rookie Teams Announced
ALBANY, N.Y. -- In conjunction with the beginning of the 49th annual 2010 ECAC Men's Hockey Championship presented by Bank of America and Hilton Garden Inn, Albany Medical Center the first set of 2009-10 postseason awards was announced today by the League office. After a nomination and voting process was conducted by the League's coaches three all-league teams and an all-rookie team were named.
Four of the League's participant teams have members on the first-team, including Rensselaer. Last season's reigning team MVP junior forward Chase Polack was named to the League' first-team. Polacek continued his productive career in Troy, NY, as he led the conference in points-per-game (1.59), ranked third in both goals scored (17) and assists (18), and tied for first with 15 power-play points (9g-15a). He also led the League in shorthanded points with five (2g-3a).
A member of last season's all-league third-team, Broc Little from Yale has earned the reputation of being a clutch goal scorer in his three year career with in New Haven, CT. The high-scoring junior forward finished third in scoring in conference play netting 20 goals and adding 11 helpers. His productivity on the offense end of the ice were good enough to lead the League in both goals (20) and game-winning goals (5).
Rounding out the forward position on the League's first- team is fellow Bulldog senior Sean Backman. The Cos Cob, CT is recognized for the fourth consecutive season as a member of one of the conference's all-league teams. Backman finished the regular-season with 16 goals and nine assists. Six of Backman's goals came on the power-play.
Anchoring the first-team all-league defense are a pair of senior student-athletes from Cornell, defenseman Brendon Nash and goaltender Ben Scrivens, along with Mike Schreiber from Union.
Big Red defender Brendon Nash was tied for second in the League in scoring among his counterparts averaging (0.76 G/GM) on two goals and 14 assists. Nash was a solid two-way player helping backbone a resilient Cornell defense that allowed 43 goals in 22 conferrence games and led the special teams assault registering 13 points on the power-play. Nash was the only defender ranked in the top-10 in power-play scoring in League action.
Union's senior defenseman Mike Schreiber is another fine two-way player. The Sherwood Park, ALB native led the conference in points (6g-13a-19pts) among his counterparts. Schreiber became Union's single-season defensive points leader this season and also helped the Dutchmen's defense to third-best scoring defense in League games this season.
Coming off a breakout year as a junior, becoming widely recognized as one of the top goaltenders in the country, Ben Scrivens turned in another magical season in leading the Big Red top-rated scoring defense. The senior logged a durable 1299:56 minutes between the pipes, only surrendering 41 goals in 22 conference games. Scrivens led the League in all major goaltending categories with a 1.89 goals-against average, .933 save percentage, and .705 winning percentage (14-5-3).
The League also recognized its top rookies, with the high-scoring trio at the forward positions, from Rensselaer, Jerry D'Amingo and Brandon Pirri, along with Louis Leblanc from Harvard. George Hughes, St. Lawrence and Nick Dagostino from Cornell earned top defender accolades, while Union's Keith Kinkaid anchors the defense from the goaltender position.
Eleven other student-athletes were also recognized with second-team and third-team honors.
