Weekend Update: The Mighty Fall...

ALBANY, N.Y. -- Two of the three nationally-ranked ECAC Hockey teams dropped their first league games of the season.  Both No. 6/7 Yale and No. 13/14 Princeton surrendered five goals each in losing contests to Rensselaer and St. Lawrence respectively last evening. 

At Rensselaer 5, No. 6/7 Yale 2:  Five players recorded multiple points for the Engineers, who defeated sixth-ranked Yale, 5-2, in the seventh-annual Black Friday at the Houston Field House.  With the win the Engineers improve to 5-3-1 overall and 1-0-0 in ECAC Hockey, while the Bulldogs fell to 1-1-0 and 0-1-0 in league action.  The Engineers were paced by Chase Polacek who recorded one goal and added two assists.  Junior Broc Little led the Bulldogs' offense netting two goals, while freshman Antoine Laganiere was credited with two helpers on the evening.  Yale outshot the Engineers by a count of 36 to 25. 

St. Lawrence 5 at No. 13/14 Princeton 2:  Saints' junior Aaron Bogosian had a goal and an assist to key a four-goal explosion to lead St. Lawrence to a come from behind win at nationally-ranked Princeton, 5-2 in the ECAC Hockey opener for both teams.  Linemates Aaron Bogosian and Jared Keller each had a goal and an assist for the winners.  Alex Petizian finished with 32 saves to earn his first win of the year after two losses and a tie in three previous starts, while Zane Kalemba had 25 stops for Princeton.

At No. 5/6 Cornell 5, Dartmouth 1:  In a game that featured 21 penalties on a combined 77 minutes, the Big Red capitalized on their power-play chances to score a 5-1 victory over Dartmouth.  Forward Blake Gallagher had two goals, while forward Colin Greening had the game-winner and assisted on two others as top ten Cornell defeated Dartmouth in ECAC Hockey play last evening at Lynah Rink.  Big Red goaltender Ben Scrivens made 21 saves in notching the win.  Captain Peter Boldt scored for the Big Green and goaltender Jody O'Neill stopped 29 shots, including 13 in the third period.

At Quinnipiac 4, Clarkson 2:  Senior assistant captain Mike Atkinson's hat trick helped Quinnipiac to a 4-2 win against Clarkson for its first ECAC Hockey win of the 2009-10 season.  The Bobcats improve to 5-1-0 overall including a 2-0-0 mark at home.  The last time Quinnipiac won five of their first six games was the 2000-01 season.  Clarkson drops to 3-5-0 overall and 0-1-0 in ECAC Hockey play.  In goal, sophomore Dan Clarke stopped 34 shots, including 13 down the stretch to preserve the win.  His counterpart, Clarkson's Richie LaVeau, finished with 27 saves in the game.  Clarkson out shot the Bobcats 36-31.  The Knights went 1-of-3 on the power-play.  The Bobcats were 0-of-2 with the man advantage.

Brown 3 at Union 3 (ot):  Senior defenseman Mike Schreiber highlighted Union's efforts in a 3-3 tie against Brown with a career-best two goals and a career-high tying three points.  The Dutchmen go to 3-3-2 overall and 0-0-1 in conference play, while Brown moves to 0-1-1 and 0-0-1 in ECAC Hockey.  Junior goaltender Corey Milan made 16 saves for Union, going to 3-2-2 in his sixth start of the season.  At the opposite end, Mike Clemente made 28 stops to go to 0-1-1 on the young season.

At Colgate 5, Harvard 4:  Robbie Bourdon scored the game-winner with 4:04 left and Colgate had to kill off a penalty down the stretch to preserve a come-from-behind 5-4 victory over visiting Harvard.  Austin Smith netted his second consecutive two-goal game and David McIntyre erupted for a career-high four points on the evening on a goal and three assists in the win for Colgate.  Eric Kroshus, Alex Killorn, Marshall Everson, and Chris Huxley each found the back of the net for the Crimson, while Kyle Richter stopped 35 shots by the Raiders.  Colgate out shot Harvard 40-29 on the evening.  Charles Long was credited with 15 saves, including 10 in the final period to get the win.
