Trio Garnering Votes in National Polls

ALBANY, NY -- Two ECAC Hockey programs, Yale and Cornell, are featured in the top-ten in the national polls this week, along with conference leaders Union, who is once again earning the respect on the national scale.  In this week's USCHO.com and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Men's College Polls released Monday, January 25, Yale is ranked  No. 6/7; Cornell comes in at the No. 8/8 position, while Union sits in the No. 18 spot.     

Yale remains in the top ten in both polls after another split in league play.  The Bulldogs held its No. 6 position in the USCHO.com Poll (637 points) and dipped from the No. 5 spot to the No. 7 ranking in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Men's College Poll (272 points).  The Bulldogs went 1-1 in their trip to the North Country last weekend.  On Friday Yale edged a gamely Clarkson team, 3-2 at Cheel Arena and were better by a hot St. Lawrence team Saturday, 4-2.  The Bulldogs continue to sport the nation's top offense, netting 70 goals in 19 games (4.16G/GM).

After earning a weekend split against top-ten non-league foe North Dakota ay Lynah Rink, Cornell moved up one spot to the No. 8 position in the USCHO.com Poll earning 631 points and fell one position in the in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Men's College Poll from the No. 7 spot to the No. 8 position earning 269 points.  The Big Red scored a 1-0 shutout Friday behind the 28 save performance of goaltender Ben Scrivens.  The Fighting Sioux would even the score the following evening, downing Cornell, 3-1.  Cornell boasts the second best scoring defense in the nation having only allowed 37 goals in 18 contests (2.06G/GM).

Union dropped two league games over the weekend and saw its rankings drop from the No. 13 spot to the No. 18 position in the USCHO.com Poll (210) and it fell out of the top-15 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Men's College Poll.  Despite the two defeats the Dutchmen still remain in the number one position in the league standings with a record of 7-2-3.  Union will take to the road this weekend, clashing with Yale Friday and Brown Saturday.
