Stable Play Earns Respect in Polls

ALBANY, NY -- ECAC Hockey is well represented in this week's USCHO.com and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Men's College Polls released Monday, January 18, with the placement of three teams.  Solid play by Yale, Cornell, and Union continues to merit national recognition.

Yale remains in the top ten in both polls after a 1-1 week in league.  The Bulldogs slipped from the No. 5 position to the No. 6 slot in the USCHO.com Poll (651 points) and maintained its No. 5 ranking in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Men's College Poll (304 points).  The Bulldogs dropped a road game to rival Harvard, 3-2 early in the week, but came back Saturday with an offensive eruption to handle visiting Brown, 8-5.  The Bulldogs have the nation's seventh best winning percentage (.676) showcasing a 10-4-3 overall record on the season.

Cornell fell held onto the No. 9 position in the USCHO.com Poll earning 573 points and moved up one spot in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Men's College Poll from the No. 8 spot to the No. 7 position earning 263 points.  The Big Red earned three league points on their trip to the North Country last weekend, downing Clarkson, 3-1 Friday and playing to a 1-1 overtime tie Saturday at St. Lawrence.  Cornell boasts the third best scoring defense in the nation having only allowed 34 goals in 16 contests (2.12G/GM).

In its lone game of the week, Union defeated Route 7 rival Rensselaer, 3-1 Saturday at Messa Rink.  With the victory the Dutchmen are riding a five-game winning streak, which has helped them maintain the No. 13 spot in both the USCHO.com Poll (485) and the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Men's College Poll (158 points).  Union, 7-0-3, remains the only unbeaten in conference play in the nation.
