Yale & Cornell Earn Top-10 Spots in Final Poll

ALBANY, NY -- The top two teams in ECAC Hockey play finished the season ranked in the final USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Men's College Hockey Poll released Monday, April 12.  Regular-season champion Yale finished the season ranked in the No. 6 spot, while league tournament champion Cornell ended up in the No. 9 position.  Yale and Cornell were two of five teams who remained in the poll throughout the 2009-10 season.   

Two-time defending ECAC Hockey regular-season champion, Yale earned 307 points finishing in the No. 6 spot, as it posted an overall record of 21-10-3.  The Bulldogs displayed strong firepower on offense this season leading the nation in scoring registering 141 goals in 34 contests (4.15 G/GM).  Yale also bolstered a solid power-play on the year, which ranked second in the netting 47 goals on 197 chances (23.9%). 

Cornell, which claimed its 12th ECAC Hockey Tournament Championship this March, mustered 255 points in the final USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Men's College Poll to claim the No. 9 position.  Cornell finished the season with a 21-9-4 overall advancing to the NCAA Tournament.  The Big Red showcased the nation’s second best defense only surrendering 67 goals in 34 games (1.97 G/GM).  Cornell had one of the nation’s top penalty kill units stopping 138 of 157 opportunities (87.9%), which ranked third in the nation.
