Four League Teams Earn National Recognition
ALBANY, NY -- Four ECAC Hockey teams were merited national acknowledgment in the latest 2009-10 college hockey polls released Monday, November 23, 2009. Cornell is seated in the No. 7/8 spot, Quinnipiac jumped to the No. 9/10 position, Yale is seated at No. 11/11, while Colgate makes its first appearance in a national poll this season coming in at the No. 20 position in the USCHO.com rankings.
After its second consecutive weekend split in league action, Cornell dropped from the No. 5 position to the No. 8 spot in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Men's College Hockey Poll (256 points) and two spots in the USCHO.com poll to the No. 7 position earning 648 points. The Big Red faced two tough challenges on the road, as they handled Princeton by a count of 5-2, Friday and were edged at Quinnipiac by a count of 3-2, Saturday.
Showcasing a potent offense and solid play between the pipes, Quinnipiac ran its unbeaten streak to six games. The Bobcats continue to climb in the national rankings leaping into the top ten in both polls with wins over Colgate (5-3) and Cornell (3-2). The Bobcats jumped from the No. 13 position to the No. 9 spot in the USCHO.com poll garnering 622 points and from the No. 13 spot to the No. 10 position in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Men's College Hockey Poll with 223 points.
Defending league and tournament champion Yale is positioned in the No. 11 position in both national polls. The Bulldogs fell two spots in the USCHO.com poll earning 587 points and three positions in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Men's College Hockey Poll garnering 144 points.
Only have lost three of 13 contests on the season (6-3-4), Colgate is beginning to get national recognition. The Raiders played two concrete games last weekend dropping a 5-3 contest to Quinnipiac and edging Princeton by a count of 5-4 in overtime. As a result Colgate earned 70 points to place itself in the No. 20 position in the USCHO.com poll.
