Valery-Trabucco Reaches Milestone in Loss at Colgate

HAMILTON, NY -- Senior Mario Valery-Trabucco set another Union College men's ice hockey record in the 15th-ranked Dutchmen's 3-2 loss at Colgate on Saturday night to close out the regular season. Trabucco netted his program-best 21st goal of the season for his 33rd point in conference action, which finishes second in the league.

Picking up an assist on Trabucco's goal was senior Jason Walters, who moves within a point of tying Jordan Webb's 114 points for the top spot on the career record list. Walters' assist was his 22 of the season and his 38th point, which is tied for the second most all-time.

Dutchmen end the regular season with a 18-10-6 record -- one win shy of tying the school record. In conference action, Union finishes in third place with a 12-6-4 mark. The Raiders finish 15-13-6 overall and in fourth place with a 12-8-2 conference mark.

Both team's will enjoy next weekend off thanks to first round byes and will be watching four ECAC Hockey series.

Fifth-seeded St. Lawrence will hosts 12th-seeded Clarkson, while sixth-seeded RPI will welcome 11th-seeded Brown. Seventh-seeded Quinnpiac hosts 10th-seeded Dartmouth and eighth-seeded Princeton plays ninth-seeded Harvard. Each series is a best of three.

Freshman Kyle Bodie was Union's other goal scorer with his fifth goal of the season after the Dutchmen trailed 1-0. It all started with a pass into the Colgate zone by junior Stephane Boileau. Bodie accepted the pass at the top of the circle and sent a wrist shot that snuck through the body of Colgate goaltender Charles Long at 7:55.

Trabucco's goal came at 9:51 of the third and pulled the score to 3-2. Walters won an offensive zone face off and junior Adam Presizniuk made a backhand pass to Trabucco in the slot.

Saturday night's game began with Colgate recognizing its six seniors and forward David McIntyre got things rolling on his "Senior Night" with a touch pass, springing junior Francois Brisebois for a breakaway goal 52 seconds into the contest.

Colgate established a two goal lead in the second period with goals from sophomore Nick Prockow and freshman Kurtis Bartliff. Both tallies came on fast breaks down the left wing. Prockow netted his eighth goal of the season at 4:04 and Bartliff connected for his third goal at 14:15.

Brisebois made it 4-2 at 17:30 and an empty net goal by McIntyre at 18:57 produced the final result.

Freshman netminder Keith Kinkaid made 29 stops in his fourth consecutive start. He his record to 11-6-2. Long, playing in his final regular season game at Starr Rink, turned away 34 shots, improving to 6-5-2.
