ALBANY, N.Y. -- The Cornell men's ice hockey team will attempt
to capture the 2009-10 ECAC championship on Saturday evening after
dispatching upstart Brown 3-0 on Friday afternoon at the Times
Union Center. Big Red goalkeeper Ben Scrivens had 23 saves to
capture the shutout as Cornell improves to 20-8-4 on the season and
extends its unbeaten streak to five games. The Big Red will look
for its 12th ECAC championship when it meets either St. Lawrence or
Union on Saturday at xx p.m. with an automatic bid to the NCAA
tournament on the line.
While Scrivens was again outstanding, John Esposito assisted
Jillson Locke's game-winning gao with five minutes remaining in the
second period, then tallied an insurance goal less than seven
minutes into the third on a feed from Justin Krueger. Riley Nash
capped off the scoring with a little more than six minutes left on
a Colin Greening pass.
Cornell held a narrow 27-23 edge in shots and both teams were held
scoreless on four power-play attempts.
