HAMILTON, N.Y. -- Riley Nash had two goals and two assists for his second career four-point night to lead the Cornell men's hockey team to a 6-2 victory at Colgate on Tuesday night in Hamilton, N.Y. The win moves the Big Red back into a tie with Yale for first place atop the ECAC Hockey standings.

Blake Gallagher and Colin Greening added a goal and an assist for the Big Red (15-7-3, 12-4-2 ECAC Hockey). Tyler Roeszler and Sean Whitney both had a goal for Cornell, while Nick D'Agostino, Brendon Nash, Braden Birch and Locke Jillson each had an assist. Ben Scrivens stopped 33 shots in the victory for Cornell.

For Colgate (12-13-5, 9-8-1 ECAC Hockey), Brian Day and David McIntyre both had a goal, while Francois Brisebois had a pair of assists and Austin Smith added one. Alex Evin made 13 saves on 17 shots, with Charles Long stopping two of the three shots he faced in 15:17 of relief.

Cornell finished the night 1-for-6 on the power play, while holding Colgate scoreless in six power-play attempts.

Cornell got on the board first midway through the first period. Greening carried the puck into the Colgate end and was checked off the puck, but Riley Nash was there to control it. The junior was checked off his shot attempt, but D'Agostino ripped the shot from between the circles that Evin stopped off to the side. Unfortunately for Colgate, that was where Greening was, and he one-timed the puck from the bottom of the circle to Evin's right over the stick side for the short-sided goal, giving Cornell a 1-0 lead.

Cornell's second goal came just as a penalty expired on Brendon Nash, as Riley Nash picked up a loose puck in the neutral zone and skated into the Colgate end, using his body to hold off the defenseman guarding him. Nash worked his way to the front of the net and lifted a shot over the shoulder of Evin to give Cornell a 2-0 lead just 5:07 into the second period.

Colgate cut into the lead just a minute and a half later when Brisebois picked up a loose puck at the Cornell blue line and skated in on a 2-on-1. Brisebois lofted a pass from the side boards to the weak side post for McIntyre, who one-timed the puck into the near post with 6:35 gone in the second period.

Cornell pushed the lead back up to two goals at the end of the second period when Riley Nash scored his second goal of the game, taking a pass from Gallagher and chipping a short-sided shot over the shoulder of Evin with just 11 seconds to play in the second period.

Early in the third period, a cross-checking call on Patrick Kennedy was followed by back-to-back hooking calls on Colgate's David McIntyre and Wade Poplawski, giving Cornell a full 1:19 of a 4-on-3 power play. Cornell coach Mike Schafer called timeout, and the Big Red made the power play count when Gallagher ripped a one-timer from between the circles that beat Evin, ending the night for sophomore in favor of junior goaltender Charles Long.

Long didn't fare much better, as Roeszler scored with 16:24 to play in the game, taking a pass from Kennedy and ripping a shot that was initially stopped, but Roeszler stuck with the play and jammed his rebound under the pad of Long for the 5-1 lead.

Colgate cut into the margin with Long on the bench for the extra skater when Brisebois picked up the puck in the Cornell corner and sent the puck to Day open in the lower part of the circle to the right of Scrivens, one-timing a shot low past the senior netminder. The gap went back up to four with an unassisted goal from Sean Whitney, who picked up a loose puck in the neutral zone and skated in on a breakaway, faking past Long before slipping the puck under his leg for what would prove to be the final margin.

Cornell continues its final road trip of the regular season when it makes the weekend trip to Harvard and Dartmouth. The Big Red and Crimson will face off on Friday at 7 p.m. in Cambridge, Mass., before taking on Dartmouth on Saturday night at 7 p.m. at Thompson Arena in Hanover, N.H.
