Tigers Surrender Three Third-Period Goals In Loss

POTSDAM, N.Y. - Clarkson scored three goals in the third period to overcome a 2-1 deficit and defeat the Princeton men's hockey team 4-3 on Friday night at Cheel Arena. Mike Kramer and Dan Bartlett each had a goal and assist in the loss.

Princeton built leads of 1-0 and 2-1 in the game, but two quick goals three minutes in the third period turned momentum in Clarkson's favor. Matt Beca set up Adam Pawlick for a redirect on the power play at 3:17 to knot the game up at 2-2 and Dan Reed made it 3-2 at 5:54 as he trailed the play and was set up for a wide-open shot.

Kramer gave Princeton a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal 12:05 of the first period as found some daylight between Clarkson goaltender Paul Karpowich and the goal post for his 11th goal of the season with assists from Taylor Fedun and Mark Magnowski. Clarkson drew even with 10 seconds left in the period as Corey Tamblyn's shot found the back of the net and knotted the teams after 20 minutes.

Bartlett scored the lone goal of the second period and Kramer sprung him into the Clarkson zone and he scored on a quick shot using a Golden Knight defenseman as a screen for his team-leading 15th goal.

Princeton held the 2-1 lead entering the third before Clarkson mounted the comeback. The Golden Knights made it 4-2 at 14:22 when Matt Beca stuffed home a loose puck for what was the eventual game winner.

Princeton would get one goal back with Zane Kalemba pulled and a minute left in regulation. Bartlett fed the puck through the crease and Derrick Pallis, pinching in from the point, knocked it in at the opposite post for his second of the season. Brodie Zuk also had an assist on the goal.

Kalemba finished the night with 26 saves while Paul Karpowich made 30 saves for the win. Princeton outshot Clarkson 33-30.

The Tigers dropped to 10-12-2 overall and 6-10-1 in the ECAC with the loss. Princeton visits St. Lawrence tomorrow at 4 p.m.
