Power-Play Helps Rensselaer to Win Over Tigers

PRINCETON - Rensselaer scored four goals on the power play as the Engineers defeated the Princeton men's hockey team 4-1 on Sunday at Hobey Baker Rink in a game nationally televised on ESPNU.

The Engineers opened the scoring at 14:17 of the first period on the their fourth power play when Jerry D'Amigo corralled a loose puck after Brandon Pirri had his shot blocked, and stuffed it in a long the goal line. D'Amigo was in on the scoring as RPI made it 2-0 at 7:08 of the second when Mike Bergin scored with the man advantage.

RPI made it 3-0 1:27 into the third period when Marty O'Grady put a rebound into the Tiger net, but Princeton answered at 5:23 on Mike Kramer's seventh goal of the season after Mark Magnowski hit him with a centering pass. Matt Arhontas also assisted on the tally as the Tigers cut the lead to two goals.

The Engineers sealed the win with less than three minutes to go when Chase Poalcek scored on a one-timer off a cross-ice feed from D'Amigo.

Allen York made 30 saves in the RPI net for the win while Zane Kalemba had 15 saves in the Tiger goal.

Princeton falls to 6-10-3 overall and 3-8-1 in the ECAC. The Tigers are off until Jan. 25 when they host Connecticut.
