Colgate Trips Up Tigers

PRINCETON - Colgate scored two goals less than two minutes apart in the second period and went on to defeat the Princeton men's hockey team 3-1 on Friday night at Hobey Baker Rink.

After an even first period that saw neither team score, the Raiders went ahead with a pair of goal a minute and 11 seconds apart halfway through the second stanza. Austin Smith gave Colgate the lead at 8:19 with a power-play goal as he redirected Jeremy Price's point shot past Princeton goaltender Zane Kalemba.

Ethan Cox made it 2-0 shortly thereafter as he collected the rebound of a blocked shot and four the back of the net. Jason Williams and Corbin McPherson had helpers on the goal.

Princeton cut the lead to a goal with five minutes left in the second period when Mike Kramer netted his ninth goal of the season, scoring on a rebound of his own shot after Brodie Zuk picked off a clearing pass and fed Kramer on the doorstep.

Colgate sealed the win when David McIntyre scored an empty-net power-play goal with 12 seconds remaining.

Colgate outshot Princeton 28-24 including a 9-4 edge in the final period after Princeton led in shots through two periods. Alex Even made 23 saves in the Colgate net while Kalemba had 25 saves.

The loss snaps Princeton's three-game win streak and drops the Tigers to 9-11-2 overall and 5-9-1 in the ECAC. Princeton is back in action tomorrow against Cornell at 7 p.m.
