Colgate Downed by Under-18 Team
HAMILTON, N.Y. - Four different goal scorers
paced the U.S. National Under 18 squad to a 4-1 victory over
Colgate in a hockey exhibition played at Starr Rink, Sunday
afternoon.
USNTDP, which beat Cornell 3-2 in overtime Saturday evening,
opened scoring at 5:26 of the first with a power play goal from
Chase Balisy. Charles Long (Cleveland Heights, Ohio) made the
initial stop on a shot by Adam Clendening. As the puck fell
behind the goalie in the crease, Balisy drove to the net and pushed
the puck across the goal line to give U.S. National Under 18 the
lead for good. Brandon Saad made the initial pass to
Clendening received a secondary assist on the opening goal.
Jason Zucker increased the advantage to 2-0 at 15:59 of the first
as he one timed a shot into the cage from the left side off a
strange bounce off the boards.
USNTDP posted two goals in the span of 1:16 in the early stages to
take a 4-0 advantage. Bill Arnold collected a pass from Saad
and beat Long to the left side of the cage at 2:11. At 3:37,
Nick Shore banged home a rebound from in front of the net to finish
the scoring for U.S. Under 18.
Colgate solved goalie Jack Campbell in the third period as Austin
Smith (Dallas, Texas) and David McIntyre (Pefferlaw, Ont.) teamed
up to get the Raiders on the board. Smith skated into the
offensive zone and threw a pass to McIntyre to the left of the
cage. After being stopped on the initial shot, the senior
hammered home the rebound at 11:08.
The Raiders out shot USNTDP 30-19 on the afternoon. Campbell
made 29 saves, including 11 in the third period. Long went
the distance and saved 15 for the Raiders.
Colgate returns to action Friday evening as it hosts Army.
Game time is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start at Starr Rink.
