CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Doug Rogers scored a goal with 2:05 remaining in regulation to help the Harvard men's hockey team earn a 3-3 tie against McGill in an exhibition game before 1,006 fans Friday night at Bright Hockey Center. Michael Biega and Alex Biega also found the back of the net for the Crimson, while Kyle Richter made 15 saves in his first start for Harvard since the 2007-08 season.
McGill jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period, as
Guillaume Doucet got the team on the scoreboard at 9:18, and
Francis Verreault-Paul added another tally for McGill at
17:31. With only 18 seconds remaining in the opening stanza,
Michael Biega rocketed a shot from just above the left circle,
cutting Harvard's deficit in half, 2-1, entering the first
intermission.
In the second, McGill grabbed its second two-goal lead of the
game, as Doucet notched his second goal of the night, beating
Richter at 10:37. Midway through the third, Harvard, which
outshot McGill, 49-18, for the contest, scored on the power play,
as Alex Biega slid the puck through Hubert Morin's pads with a shot
from the point. Later in the period, Rogers stole the puck
near center ice and skated down the right side. He weaved his
way through the defense and placed the puck over Morin's left
shoulder, tying the game, 3-3.
Harvard kicks off the season officially at Ivy League and ECAC Hockey rival Dartmouth Friday, Oct. 30 at 7 p.m.
