Princeton and Harvard Skate to Tie
PRINCETON - Senior Dan Bartlett and junior Mike Kramer each had
a goal and an assist as the Princeton men's hockey team skated to a
3-3 tie with Harvard on Saturday afternoon at Hobey Baker Rink.
After a scoreless opening period, the Tigers got on the scoreboard
with two goals in a seven-second span midway through the second
period. The scoring began at 9:27 when Bartlett collected his third
of the season by stuffing a Kramer backhand shot over the goal
line. Senior Cam MacIntyre threw the puck on net and Kramer got a
swipe at the rebound that trickled through Harvard goaltender Kyle
Richter before Bartlett pushed it over the line.
Princeton won the ensuing face-off and came right back into the
Harvard zone and made it 2-0 seven seconds later. Senior Mark
Magnowski won the face-off and junior Taylor Fedun picked up the
puck. Fedun skated into the zone and the fed a pass to Kramer who
one-timed it from the high slot through Richter for his
team-leading fourth goal of the season.
The Crimson answered back at 11:21 of the second period when Doug
Rogers scored his second of the season, picking the top right
corner of the net with assists from Alex and Michael Biega.
The Tigers extended their lead to 3-1 at 16:09 of the second
period with their second power-play goal of the night as junior Sam
Sabky redirected a point shot past Richter. Bartlett sent the puck
from the corner to senior Brad Schroeder on the opposite point,
where Schroeder threw the puck on net, finding Sabky for the
redirection. Harvard cut the lead back to a goal at 17:10 when Alex
Biega scored from Rogers.
Princeton continued to pressure Harvard in the third period but
could not put another shot past Richter despite a game-high 14
shots in the stanza. Harvard weathered Princeton's chances and took
advantage of one of its own late in the period with Richter on the
bench in favor of an extra skater. Louis Leblanc fed Michael Biega
from behind the net and Biega scored to knot the game with 57
seconds remaining.
Harvard outshot Princeton 37-31. Princeton senior goaltender Zane
Kalemba made 34 saves while Richter handled 28 of the 31 shots he
faced.
Princeton moved to 3-2-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the ECAC with the
tie. The Tigers visit Cornell next Friday night.
