Cornell Falls in Conference Showdown
NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Brendan Mason's goal with 4:25 to play in
the third period would serve as the game-winner as the Cornell
men's hockey team dropped a 4-2 contest at Yale on Friday at
Ingalls Rink in New Haven, Conn. The loss sends Cornell to 3-1 on
the year and 2-1 in ECAC Hockey play, while Yale improves to 2-1-1
overall and 1-1-1 in league action.
Colin Greening and Nick D'Agostino scored goals for the Big Red,
which also got assists from Riley Nash, Blake Gallagher and Joe
Devin. Greening also added an assist in the contest. For Yale,
Brian O'Neill had a goal and two assists on the night, while Tom
Dignard had a pair of assists.
Cornell took a 1-0 lead early in the contest on Greening's third
goal of the year, a power-play tally at the 2:15 mark of the first
period. Yale tied the score at the 8:42 mark of the period on a
goal by Mark Arcobello. The Big Red again claimed the lead several
minutes later on D'Agostino's first career goal, only to have the
Bulldogs tie the score with 41 seconds left in the first period on
Broc Little's fifth goal of the season.
A scoreless second period followed, and the two teams skated for
most of the third period scoreless until Mason's goal at the 15:35
mark of the third period. O'Neill added an empty net goal with 20
seconds left to provide the final margin.
Ben Scrivens made 33 saves on the night, 20 of those coming in the
first period alone. Yale netminder Nick Maricic stopped 25 shots in
picking up his first victory of the year.
Cornell will look to rebound on Saturday night when it faces Brown
in a 7 p.m. game at Meehan Auditorium in Providence, R.I.
