Scheiber Nets Two in Dutchmens Tie
SCHENECTADY, NY -- Senior
defenseman Mike Schreiber highlighted Union's efforts in a 3-3 tie
against Brown with a career-best two goals and a career-high tying
three points. The Dutchmen go to 3-3-2 overall and 0-0-1 in
conference play, while Brown moves to 0-1-1 and 0-0-1 in ECAC
Hockey.
Schreiber was joined on the scoresheet by sophomore forward Kelly
Zajak, who netted his second goal of the season. Junior forward
Adam Presizniuk produced his third multi-point game with two
assists.
The Dutchmen, who went 1-for-6 on the power-play and killed all
four penalties, outshot the Bears, 32-19, despite being outshot 7-4
in the first period.
Trailing 3-2 with less than seven minutes remaining, Schreiber's
shot from the point found its way over the right shoulder of
sophomore goaltender Michael Clemente at 13:21. Presizniuk dumped
the puck off for the senior assistant captain at the left
point.
The game was the third-straight overtime contest for Union and the
fourth in the last six outings. Each team produced one shot in the
extra frame.
The Bears jumped out to a 1-0 lead early when junior defenseman
Jeremy Russell scored 32 seconds into the game with a wrist-shot
form the point. The goal, his first of the season, was assisted by
junior forward Harry Zolnierczyk and sophomore forward Jack
Maclellan.
Another fast start greeted the Bears in the second when senior
forward Aaron Volpatti blocked a shot in his defensive end raced
for a shorthanded tally at 58 seconds.
While still on the power play, the Dutchmen responded with a gritty
goal downlow at 1:45 by sophomore forward Kelly Zajac with the
assists going to Presizniuk and Schreiber.
Zolnierczyk netted his first goal of the season and Brown's second
shorty of the night 2:54 into the second with a Union turnover in
the defensive end.
Once again the Dutchmen responded with a goal by Schreiber at 4:21
on a onetimer that snuck through the pads of Clemente. Senior
forward Jason Shaffer made the centering pass from behind the net
after receiving the initial pass form freshman forward Wayne
Simpson.
Junior goaltender Corey Milan made 16 saves, going to 3-2-2 in his
sixth start of the season. His most noticeable stop came when she
slide across the crease, robbing freshman defenseman Richie Crowley
on the power-play in the second period.
At the opposite end, Clemente made 28 stops to go to 0-1-1.
The Dutchmen host #6 Yale at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7. The game
will be televised locally on Time Warner Sports Channel 3 in the
