Three League Teams Earn Tournament Spots
ALBANY, N.Y. -- The field for the NCAA Men's Division I Ice
Hockey Championship has been set for play which begins next weekend
(3/27-3/29). Three ECAC Hockey teams that have been featured
in national polls throughout the season are part of the elite
group. The 2009 ECAC Hockey regular-season and tournament
champion Yale Bulldogs, the Cornell Big Red and the Princeton
Tigers will play for the right to earn a trip to the Frozen Four in
Washington D.C. as part of the nation's top 16 teams.
The No. 2-seeded Bulldogs (15-5-2, 24-7-2), who are the host team
for the East Regional, will take on the No. 3-seed Vermont (15-8-4,
20-11-5) Friday, March 27 at 6:30 p.m. The game will be
played at Arena at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport, Conn and televised on
ESPNU.
No. 3-seeded Cornell, second place finisher in the ECAC Hockey
regular-season and post-season tournament (13-6-3, 21-9-4) will
take on No. 2-seeded Northeastern (18-6-3, 25-11-4) at the Midwest
Regional at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, Mich. Saturday, March
28 at 4 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPNU.
The Princeton Tigers will be making its second straight trip the
NCAA National Tournament (14-8-0, 22-11-1), as it travels to
Mariucci Arena in Minneapolis, Minn. for the West Regional to take
on No. 2-seeded Minnesota-Duluth (10-11-7, 21-12-8) Friday, March
27 at 9 p.m. (eastern time). The Tigers were tabbed with the
No. 3-seed. The match-up will be televised on ESPNU.
