Anderson Named to Academic All-District Team
HAMILTON, N.Y. -- Colgate’s Mark Anderson (Hastings, Neb.)
has received yet another academic honor as the ESPN The
Magazine’s Academic All-District teams were announced.
The recent graduate was among 10 student-athletes chosen a first
team District I honoree and now advances onto the national ballot
for the second consecutive year. Anderson earned third team
academic All-American accolades last season.
Student-athletes with at least sophomore eligibility and a 3.3
cumulative grade point average are eligible to be nominated.
Anderson competed in the at-large category which constitutes the
sports of fencing, golf, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing,
swimming, tennis, volleyball, water polo, and wrestling.
Anderson, who graduated with a bachelor's degree in neuroscience,
finished with a 3.86 cumulative grade point average. During the
2008-09 season, he received numerous awards and honors. Anderson
was the recipient of the prestigious 1819 Award, which is the most
selective award on campus for a graduating senior. He also received
the 2009 Goettsman Award, which goes to a senior that displays
academic and athletic excellence; shared Colgate’s Male
Scholar Athlete of the Year, and was the 2009 Terry Slater Award
winner, which is given to a senior men’s hockey player whose
performance, leadership, and dedication both on and off the ice had
the greatest impact on the program. In addition, Anderson was one
of 58 recipients from winter sports to receive a post graduate
scholarship from the NCAA. He served as an assistant team captain
for the Raiders in 2008-09 and posted two goals and four assists in
36 games.
Joining Anderson on the national ballot from District I were Tim
Balise (UMass), Colin Greening (Cornell), Dan Ricketts (Brown),
Juergen Uhl (Vermont), Scott Rosenshein (Army), Jeff Spear
(Columbia), Matt Cook (Union), Bill Jones (Harvard), and Kalani
Efstathiou (Sacred Heart).
