League Issues Suspension
ALBANY, N.Y. -- ECAC Hockey today announced that Rensselaer junior defenseman Erik Burgdoerfer has been suspended for two games by the League as a result of incidents in the Engineers' contests versus Colgate Friday, January 16 and Cornell Saturday, January 17 at the Houston Field House in Troy, New York.
Burgdoerfer was assessed a five-minute major and game misconduct for hitting from behind at the 15-minute mark of the third period versus Colgate; and a five-minute major and game disqualification for boarding at the 20-minute mark of the third period versus Cornell. The disqualification penalty automatically carries a one-game suspension as mandated by NCAA ice hockey rules.
Based upon the action by the League, Burgdoerfer is not eligible to compete in the Engineers' next three contests. The suspension assessed is in accordance with ECAC Hockey Policies and Procedures, and Rule 4, Section 10 of the NCAA Men's and Women's Ice Hockey Rules.
