Anderson Garners All-Academic Accolades

TOWSON, MD -- For the second consecutive season, Colgate's Mark Anderson (Hastings, Neb.) has been named to an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Men's At Large team, it was announced Tuesday morning.

Anderson, a third-team honoree in 2008, was one of 15 members to be named to this year's second team.  The recent graduate was among 10 student-athletes chosen as a first team District I honoree in late May and gained a spot on the national ballot. 

Student-athletes with at least sophomore eligibility and a 3.3 cumulative grade point average are eligible to be nominated.  Anderson competed in the at-large category, which constitutes the sports of fencing, golf, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, volleyball, water polo, and wrestling.

Anderson, who graduated with a bachelor's in neuroscience, completed his class work with a 3.86 cumulative grade point average.  During the 2008-09 season, he received numerous awards and honors, including being the recipient of the prestigious 1819 Award, which is the most selective award on campus for a graduating senior. Additionally, he also received the 2009 Goettsman Award, which goes to a senior that displays academic and athletic excellence; shared Colgate's Male Scholar Athlete of the Year, and was the 2009 Terry Slater Award winner, which is given to a senior men's hockey player whose performance, leadership, and dedication both on and off the ice had the greatest impact on the program.  In addition, Anderson was one of 58 recipients from winter sports to receive a post graduate scholarship from the NCAA.  He served as an assistant team captain for the Raiders in 2008-09 and posted two goals and four assists in 36 games.

Joining Anderson on the second team were Bram ten Berge (Ole Miss), Arnau Brugues (Tulsa), Erik Condra (Notre Dame), Russell Czeschin (Oklahoma), Gustave Diep (New Mexico State), Donald Ellison (Eastern Michigan), Benedikt Fischer (Memphis), Colin Greening (Cornell), Dan Mazzaferro (Auburn), Max Quinzani (Duke), Tyler Reugsegger (Denver), Jon Suaer (New Mexico), and Blake Strode (Arkansas).
