For the first time in the history of the Mutual of Omaha Stampede, two ECAC Hockey teams will face off in the first round this Friday. Making the trip half way across the country will be the Union Dutchmen and the Quinnipiac Bobcats. While this game won't count toward the ECAC standing for either team, don't expect these two teams to holding anything back. This game will give each squad a chance to get an idea of how to play one another in their two other meeting later this season.
Last season, the Dutchmen faced off against Nebraska-Omaha twice on their home ice, so this year, according to Union head coach Nate Leaman, they are returning the favor.
"Omaha came out last year and played us twice here so it was part of the agreement that they were going to come out and we would go out there and return the favor," Leaman said.
