Harvard Ranked 19th in USCHO.com Preseason Poll

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.-The Harvard men's hockey team begins the 2008-09 season ranked 19th in the nation in the USCHO.com preseason national poll, released Monday by U.S. College Hockey Online.

The Crimson returns 17 letterwinners from the 2007-08 squad that finished at No. 16 in the poll. Harvard is one of four ECAC Hockey teams ranked, joining No. 12 Princeton, No. 13 Clarkson and No. 17 Cornell. Only the WCHA (seven ranked teams) and CCHA (five) had more teams ranked than ECAC Hockey.

Harvard's ranked league opponents are among eight ranked teams the Crimson could face in the regular season. The Crimson plays regular-season games at No. 1 Boston College (Nov. 28) and at home against No. 5 North Dakota (Dec. 5-6). Harvard takes on No. 9 Boston University in the opening round of the 57th Beanpot tournament (Feb. 2) and could face No. 14 Wisconsin in the final round of the Badger Hockey Showdown (Dec. 28). The Crimson will play up to 12 total games against teams in the preseason top 20.

The USCHO.com/CSTV Poll Division I Men's Poll consists of 50 voters, including 28 coaches from the Division I conferences and 22 beat writers and sports professionals from across the country. The poll is published weekly by the Associated Press.

The Crimson opens the season Oct. 31 at home against Dartmouth. Season and single-game tickets are available by calling 877-GO HARVARD or visiting GoCrimson.com.
