RPI Ousts Dartmouth, Advances to Quarterfinals
HANOVER, N.H. -- Freshman Allen York stopped 26 of the 27 shots
he faced and three different players scored to lead the Rensselaer
men's hockey team to a 3-1 win at Dartmouth in the First Round of
the ECAC Hockey Playoffs. With the victory, RPI sweeps the series,
2 games to 0, and advances to the league quarterfinals, a
best-of-three series that begins on Friday on the road at
Cornell.
Leading scorer Chase Polacek (Edina, MN/Academy of Holy Angels)
put RPI in front at 12:23 of the first period when he scored from
between the circles for his 11th goal of the season. Dartmouth
knotted the game on a power play goal by Joe Gaudet just 2:35 later
and that is how the first period ended.
Rensselaer scored twice in the second period for the 3-1 advantage
after two and neither team found the back of the net in the third.
The Engineers' second goal came off the stick of freshman Alex
Angers-Goulet (St. Augustin, PQ/Langley Chiefs), who scored on a
wrist shot from the top of the left face-off circle at 5:42.
Classmate Josh Rabbani (Woodland Hills, CA/St. Louis Bandits) made
it 3-1 with RPI's third even-strength goal of the game at 16:01 and
York made them stand up.
York (Westaskiwin, AB/Camrose Kodiaks), who had 31saves in the 3-2
Game 1 overtime win on Friday, made 12 saves in the first period,
six in the second and nine in the third. Freshman Jody O'Neil
finished with 18 saves for Dartmouth.
The Big Green, the sixth seed in the ECAC Hockey Playoffs, ends
their season with a 14-14-3 record. Rensselaer, the 11th seed,
improves to 9-25-2.
