Golden Knights Tie No. 1 CC

Boxscore

POTSDAM, NY -- The Golden Knights (1-1-1), of ECAC Hockey, and the Tigers (4-0-1), of the WCHA, will complete their two-game non-league series on Saturday night, beginning at 7:30 p.m.

"I thought we had a real good effort," stated Clarkson head coach George Roll. "It was a different effort than last weekend. I thought we were much more committed to playing solid in our own end. We played a very physical game. We knew we had to do that against a team that skates as well as they do. We aren't satisfied with the tie, but overall the effort was extremely good. Our goaltending was awfully good tonight. Paul made some great saves when we needed him to."

After a scoreless first period, Clarkson struck first with their sophomore line working hard down low to produce the game's first goal. Lauri Tuohimaa (Helsinki, Finland) put Clarkson on the scoreboard first with his third goal in as many games, equaling his goal total from last year. Tuohimaa took a feed in the slot on a pass behind the net from classmate Scott Freeman (Whitby, ONT) at 5:54 and wristed in the game's first goal. Linemate Brandon DeFazio (Oakville, ONT) started the play with strong work along the backboards. For Freeman that was his fifth assist of the season, while DeFazio notched his fourth of the year.

Colorado College tied it at 14:25 of the middle frame with a power-play tally from senior Chad Rau (Eden Prairie, MN). Freshman Gabe Guentzel (Woodbury, MN) and senior Eric Walsky (Anchorage, AK) assisted.

The Tigers, benefiting from seven power plays, out shot the Knights 34-23. Colorado, which killed off all five Clarkson man-advantages, has not allowed a power-play goal by the opponents this season (0-33).

Karpowich, named ECAC Rookie of the Week on Monday, was solid throughout the contest, posting 10 saves in the first period, 11 more in the second frame, eight in the third, and four in the five-minute overtime period.

Just 41 seconds after the opening faceoff Clarkson went on the power play, but Colorado College killed off the Knights' man-advantage, and held a 10-6 margin in shots in the scoreless first period. The Tigers had two power plays through the first 20 minutes, but Clarkson limited CC to just two shots on goal with the extra skater.

Sophomore Richard Bachman (Highlands Ranch, CO) made 22 saves for Colorado College
