POTSDAM, N.Y. -- Junior Mark Magnowski scored two goals and senior Brandan Kushniruk scored his second game winner in as many nights to lead the eighth-ranked Princeton men's hockey team to a 4-2 win over Clarkson on Saturday afternoon at Cheel Arena. The win completed Princeton's first weekend sweep in the North Country in 10 seasons.

Princeton played a strong opening period and generated many chances, outshooting Clarkson 19-4. Princeton's 19 first period shots equaled its shot total from last night's game at St. Lawrence. Princeton converted on its fifth shot of the game when Magnowski netted his fourth goal of the season. He and sophomore linemate Matt Arhontas battled in the corner with Magnowski eventual skating in front and reaching around the outstretched arm of Clarkson goaltender Paul Karpowich for the go-ahead goal at 6:28 of the opening stanza.

The Tigers extended their lead to 2-0 early in the second period when Magnowski again found the back of the net and in doing so, recorded his second two-goal game of the season. Arhontas carried the puck into the Clarkson zone on the rush and pulled up. He then fed junior defenseman Jody Pederson who was trailing the play. Pederson took a quick shot that Karpowich stopped, but the puck snuck through him and bounced in the crease where Magnowski tapped it into the goal.

Princeton continued to pressure and Kushniruk found the back of the net midway through the second period with the eventual game-winning goal. The goal was similar to his game winner at St. Lawrence and he scored on a backhander from the right side that eluded Karpowich. Pederson and junior Kevin Kaiser assisted on the goal as Pederson notched his first two points of the season in the win.

Princeton held a 34-12 edge in shots after two periods and continued to dominate shots in the third period, but Clarkson clawed back within a goal on a pair of goals 54 seconds apart just past the midway point of the period. Bryan Rufenach got Clarkson on the board with a one-timer at 10:43 and Brandon DeFazio scored in a scrum in front of the Tiger goal less than a minute later. DeFazio's goal was initially not allowed, but was later confirmed when the officials reviewed the replay. Clarkson is currently one of two schools in the ECAC equipped for instant replay, while the remaining schools will all add it for next season.

After Clarkson closed the gap, the Princeton defense tightened up and only allowed one more Clarkson shot in the remaining nine minutes of action. Princeton would add an insurance goal with 11.4 seconds left on the clock when sophomore Matt Godlewski scored into the open net for his third goal of the season. Senior Brett Wilson was credited with an assist on the tally.

Princeton junior goaltender Zane Kalemba made 14 saves in the win and allowed two goals for the first time all season. Karpowich stopped 43 shots as the Tigers fired 47 shots on Clarkson in the win.

Princeton improved to 7-1-0 overall and 6-1-0 in the ECAC with the win. It was Princeton's sixth win in a row, the last five of which have come away from Baker Rink. Princeton is a perfect 6-0 away from Baker Rink this season. It was also Princeton's first sweep at St. Lawrence in Clarkson in 10 years dating back to November of 1998. It also happened in December of 1989 since the league adopted the travel partner system in 1984-85. Princeton also won at Clarkson for just the fourth time and is 4-34 all-time at Clarkson, but have wins in two of the last three years.

Princeton is back in action Wednesday night at home when the Tigers host Quinnipiac at 7 p.m.
