A pair of third-period goals by Bowling Green led to a 3-1 victory for the Falcons on Saturday night as they dealt the Clarkson University Hockey team a weekend sweep in Ohio. The Golden Knights, who are mired in an 11-game winless skid (0-9-2), lost to BGSU 4-1 on Friday.
Clarkson, at 2-10-4 overall, is off next week and resumes play at the Ohio Hockey Classic at Ohio State on January 2-3.
Bowling Green (7-10-3) broke a 1-1 tie through 40 minutes of play with two goals early in the third period. David Solvay put the Falcons on top with the game-winner during a 4-on-4 situation at 2:24 and Dan Sexon sealed the win with a 5-on-3 power-play tally at 5:56.
The Falcons grabbed a 1-0 first-period lead, scoring just one second after their first power-play ended, with Tommy Dee's goal at 8:43.
Clarkson took advantage of a miscue by Bowling Green's goaltender to tie the game early in the second period. Freshman Louke Oakley (Whitby, ONT) picked up a loose puck misplayed by Jimmy Sprat at the side of his crease, skated behind the net and snuck in a wraparound attempt before the Falcon goalie could recover, for his second goal of the season, a shorthanded marker at 3:43.
Freshman Richie LaVeau (Arlington Heights, IL) made 27 saves as BGSU out shot the Knights 30-23. Clarkson was 0-of-9 on the power play while the Falcons were 1-of-9 with the man advantage.
