Bobcats Fall To No. 12 Princeton

Boxscore

HAMDEN, Conn. - Princeton goaltender Zane Kalemba made 37 saves as the nationally-ranked No. 12 Tigers defeated the Quinnipiac University men's ice hockey team, 2-0, Tuesday night at the TD Banknorth Sports Center. Princeton's Sam Sabky assisted on both goals as Matt Godlewski and Dan Bartlett scored once each. With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 2-4-1 (0-2-1 ECAC), while the Tigers improve to 3-1-0 (2-1-0 ECAC).

Kalemba improved to 3-1-0 with the win, while Nick Pisellini (Itasca, Ill.) made a career-high 26 saves in defeat to fall to 2-2-1.

"Kalemba was excellent," said Quinnipiac Head Coach Rand Pecknold. "We generated a lot of offense, but we just couldn't find a way to score. Our power play was awesome tonight, but we just couldn't get it into the net. It's disappointing that we couldn't score, but I think we actually played a pretty good game tonight."

The Bobcats outshot the Tigers, 37-28, while both teams went 0-for-9 on the power play. Quinnipiac has been outstanding on the penalty kill, stopping teams in 31 of their last 32 scoring opportunities with a man-up advantage.

The Tigers struck first just over three minutes into the second period as Godlewski shot through a screen from just inside the blue line to beat Pisellini glove side. Sabky handled the puck on the goalline to Pisellini's left before he saw Godlewski waiting above the opposite face-off circle. Godlewski's shot through traffic rattled home for the first tally of the game.

Bartlett added the Tigers' second goal with less than three minutes remaining in the second period. Sabky broke up a Bobcats' possession in the Tiger's zone and found Bartlett out by the center face-off circle. The junior streaked to the left post before flipping the puck inside far post while fending off a Bobcats defender.

Quinnipiac returns to action Friday, Nov. 14 when the Bobcats travel to Schenectady, N.Y., to take on Union College in an ECAC Hockey match-up set for 7 p.m. at Messa Rink.
