Lohry Lifts Princeton Over Colgate
PRINCETON -- Sophomore Kevin
Lohry scored midway through overtime to lift the ninth-ranked
Princeton men's hockey team to a 2-1 win over Colgate on Saturday
afternoon at Hobey Baker Rink.
A day after being shutout despite 43 shots, the Tigers went ahead
just 1:15 into the contest on their second shot of the night.
Senior Lee
Jubinville carried the puck into the Colagte zone and fed sophomore
Mike Kamer who fired a shot that Colgate goaltender Charles Long
knocked aside. The rebound however came right to senior Brett
Wilson who buried it into the Colgate net for his second goal of
the season.
Both teams settled down from there and Princeton played with the
one-goal lead for the next 54:29 before Colgate knotted the score
up with 4:26 left in the game. Ethan Cox fed Austin Smith who
circled the net and waited out Princeton junior goaltender Zane
Kalemba before sliding the puck along the ice for the goal.
Princeton stared overtime with 1:46 remaining on a power play and
used the man advantage to gain momentum early in the extra session.
Princeton attempted eight shots in overtime and five of them were
on goal with the fifth finding the back of the net. Junior Kevin
Kaiser got control of the puck in the corner and got it up to
junior Brad
Schroeder at the point. Schroeder took a slap shot that hit off the
skate of senior Brandan
Kushniruk in front of the net and ricocheted to Lohry, who blasted
through the legs of Long for his first of the season.
Kalemba finished the night with 26 saves for the win, while Long
made 32 saves in a losing effort. Princeton outshot Colgate
34-27.
The game was the first played by the Tigers that went to overtime
in more than a season. Princeton is now 2-1 overall and 1-1 in ECAC
Hockey action.
