Red Beats White in RPI Scrimmage
TROY, N.Y. -- Freshman Alex Angers-Goulet (St. Augustin,
PQ/Langley Chiefs) lifted a shot over the glove of Mathias Lange
(Klagenfurt, Austria/New York Apple Core) to seal the White Team's
shootout victory over the Red Team in the men's hockey Annual
Red/White Scrimmage at the Houston Field House.
Tied 2-2 after the overtime session, the teams went into a
shootout. Freshman Patrick Cullen (Washington, DC/Indianapolis
Ice), who scored the Red Team's first goal in regulation, beat
goalie Allen York (Wetaskiwin, AB/Camrose Kodiaks) for the 1-0
advantage.
Freshman Jordan Watts (Oakville, ON/Aurora Tigers), the White
Team's second shooter, beat Lange to even things up and
Angers-Goulet sealed it after sophomore Chase Polacek (Edina,
MN/Holy Angels) was denied by York.
In the regulation session, freshman Christian Morissette
(Beaconsfield, PQ/Green Bay Gamblers) opened the scoring at 1:04.
That score held until 5:03 of the third period when Cullen
connected on a shot from the point over the glove of York to tie
things up at 1-1.
Sophomore Ben Contini (Toronto, ON/North York Rangers) pushed the
White Team ahead at 10:10 but classmate Bryan Brutlag (Lakeville,
MN/Holy Angels) forced the overtime session as he scored for Red
with 23 seconds remaining.
Richard Scammell coached the White bench while Dr. Frank Lanzillo
was the coach for the Red Team.
The Engineers open their regular season schedule against the
University of Vermont on Saturday, October 11, in Quebec City, PQ
(4pm). RPI then hosts the USA Under-18 Team in exhibition action at
the Houston Field House the following day (5pm).
