Crimson Fall to U.S. Under-18 Team

Boxscore

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.-The U.S. National Under-18 Team scored in the game's first minute and held on from there for a 4-0 exhibition win against the 20th-ranked Harvard men's hockey team Saturday night at Bright Hockey Center.

Kyle Palmieri and A.J. Treais had a goal and an assist each for the U-18 team, while Brandon Maxwell provided 19 saves in two periods of action in goal. Sophomore Ryan Carroll made 26 stops for the Crimson. The win improved the U.S. squad's record against Division I teams to 4-4-1 and its mark against ECAC squads to 3-0-1.

Team USA jumped on top right away, with Ryan Bourque scoring on the rush up the left side from Chris McCarthy and Treais just 49 seconds in.

The U-18 squad could not take advantage of three first-period power plays but added a second transition goal at the 18:17 mark. Defenseman Brendan Rempel moved the puck ahead to Jerry D'Amigo, who found Palmieri streaking up the right side. Palmieri turned the corner and moved to his backhand to slip the puck over the goal line.

Harvard held an 11-7 lead in second-period shots but could not put one past Maxwell, who relieved Adam Murray in the U.S. goal at the start of the period. Maxwell made a nice stop on senior Jimmy Fraser after a pass from sophomore Colin Moore sprung the Crimson captain for a shorthanded chance.

Maxwell denied Harvard with another great save on the Crimson power play. He robbed Michael Biega with his glove after the sophomore received a left to right feed from junior Doug Rogers.

Treais then built the U.S. lead to 3-0. He stepped out of the penalty box, collected a pass from Palmieri at the Harvard blue line and went in alone for the finish.

The Crimson came out strong in the third period, keeping the puck in the U.S. end for much of the first five minutes. The U-18 team withstood the pressure, however, and took advantage when Harvard again had penalty trouble. John Henrion had the goal after collecting the rebound of a John Ramage shot.

Each team had eight shots in the third period.
