Princeton Continues to Climb; Trio Holds Spots

ALBANY, N.Y. -- Princeton continued its climb in the latest national polls, while the trio of Cornell, Clarkson and Harvard continued to hold positions in the polls.

Reigning Bank of America ECAC Hockey Champion Princeton leads the way among the four league teams, advancing to No. 9 in both the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine and USCHO.com/CBS College Sports XXL polls.

Cornell (No. 17), Clarkson (No. 19) and Harvard (No. 20) earned slots in the USCHO.com/CBS College Sports XXL poll.

Coach Guy Gadowsky's Tigers open competition Saturday against Western Ontario in exhibition play. Princeton amassed 480 points in the USCHO.com/CBS College Sports XXL poll, and 193 points in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll. The No. 9 ranking was a jump of three slots in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll, and one slot in the USCHO.com/CBS College Sports XXL poll.

Cornell, which opened its campaign with a 3-3 overtime tie versus the U.S. Under-18 team Saturday, registered 197 total points. The Big Red host visiting Western Ontario Friday in exhibition play.

Clarkson, which posted a 1-1 mark last weekend--defeating RIT and dropping a one-goal decision at Niagara--tallied 184 points in the latest USCHO.com/CBS College Sports XXL poll. The Golden Knights open their home campaign this weekend against Colorado College.

The Crimson of Harvard, who open the 2008-09 season by hosting Trois Rivieres Friday, earned 114 total points in the USCHO.com/CBS College Sports XXL poll.

The 14th annual USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Men's College Hockey Poll is conducted each week in conjunction with the American Hockey Coaches Association. The poll includes input from coaches and journalists representing each of the six NCAA Division I ice hockey conferences, as well as composite votes from officers of the AHCA and USA Hockey Magazine, the most widely distributed hockey magazine in the world.

The USCHO.com/CBS College Sports XXL Poll consists of 50 voters, including 28 coaches from the Division I conferences and 22 beat writers and sports professionals from across the country.
