Quartet Makes Impact in Polls
ALBANY, N.Y. -- The quartet of Princeton, Clarkson, Cornell and Harvard earned rankings in the latest national polls.
Princeton, the reigning Bank of America ECAC Hockey Championship squad, and Clarkson, the defending ECAC Hockey regular-season champion, retained slots in both the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine and USCHO.com/CBS College Sports XXL polls, while Cornell and Harvard each climbed one spot in the USCHO.com poll.
The Tigers, who open competition against Western Ontario October 25, tallied 525 points to earn the No. 10 slot in the USCHO.com/CBS College Sports XXL poll, and 130 points to garner the No. 12 slot in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll. Head coach Guy Gadowsky's Tigers were unranked in preseason national polls.
The Golden Knights of Clarkson claimed the No. 14 slot in both polls, tallying 83 points in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll and 356 points in the USCHO.com/CBS College Sports XXL poll. Clarkson opens play this weekend, facing RIT Friday and Niagara Saturday.
The Big Red of Cornell moved up one slot to No. 16 in the USCHO.com/CBS College Sports XXL poll. Head coach Mike Schafer's squad garnered 190 total points. Cornell opens its 2008-09 versus the U.S. Under-18 team Saturday at Lynah Rink.
The Crimson of Harvard, who open the 2008-09 season by hosting Trois Rivieres October 24, earned 136 total points to register the No. 18 slot in the USCHO.com/CBS College Sports XXL poll. The ranking was an improvement of one slot from the previous week.

About the Polls:
The 14th annual USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Men's College Hockey Poll is conducted each week in conjunction with the American Hockey Coaches Association. The poll includes input from coaches and journalists representing each of the six NCAA Division I ice hockey conferences, as well as composite votes from officers of the AHCA and USA Hockey Magazine, the most widely distributed hockey magazine in the world.
The USCHO.com/CBS College Sports XXL Poll consists of 50 voters, including 28 coaches from the Division I conferences and 22 beat writers and sports professionals from across the country. The poll, published weekly by the Associated Press, is a joint production of USCHO.com, which provides in-depth coverage of college sports, including hockey, lacrosse, soccer and others, and CBS College Sports XXL Networks, Inc., the only digital media company dedicated solely to college sports.
