Cornell, St. Lawrence Earn Rankings; Princeton, Clarkson Continue Presence

ALBANY, N.Y. -- Cornell and St. Lawrence, each on the strength of three-point weekends, leaped into one of the two national polls for the first time this season. The Big Red and Saints are joined in the national polls by Princeton and Clarkson.

The Big Red (1-0-1 overall and in ECAC Hockey), who posted back-to-back shutouts at nationally ranked Princeton (1-0) Friday and at Quinnipiac (0-0) Saturday, appear for the first time in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll at No. 14 (82 points). Cornell jumped three slots to No. 14 (330 points) in the USCHO.com/CBS College Sports poll.

The Saints (4-2-1 overall, 1-0-1 in ECAC Hockey), on the strength of an overtime win over Yale (3-2) and a 2-2 tie with Brown, earned their first national ranking of the season, registering 94 points to earn the No. 19 slot in the USCHO.com/CBS College Sports poll.

Princeton (2-1 overall, 1-1 in ECAC Hockey), which rebounded from the loss to Cornell by posting a 2-1 overtime win over Colgate, rank No. 11 (159 points) in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll, and No. 12 (458 points) in the USCHO.com/CBS College Sports  poll.

 

The Golden Knights of Clarkson (2-2-2 overall, 1-1 in ECAC Hockey) placed No. 16 (229 points) in the USCHO.com/CBS College Sports poll. Clarkson posted a 1-1 mark in League play last weekend, defeating Brown 3-1 Friday and dropping a 3-2 overtime decision to Yale Saturday.

The 14th annual USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Men's College Hockey Poll is conducted each week in conjunction with the American Hockey Coaches Association. The poll includes input from coaches and journalists representing each of the six NCAA Division I ice hockey conferences, as well as composite votes from officers of the AHCA and USA Hockey Magazine, the most widely distributed hockey magazine in the world.

The USCHO.com/CBS College Sports XXL Poll consists of 50 voters, including 28 coaches from the Division I conferences and 22 beat writers and sports professionals from across the country.
