League Hands Down Suspension
ALBANY, N.Y. -- ECAC Hockey today announced that Rensselaer
sophomore defenseman Erik Burgdoerfer has been assessed a one-game
suspension by the league as a result of a hitting-from-behind
incident in the Engineers' contest versus Cornell Friday, January
11 at Houston Field House in Troy, New York.
Burgdoerfer was assessed a five-minute major and game
disqualification for hitting from behind by the on-ice referee at
the 18-minute mark of the third period versus the Big Red. The
disqualification penalty prohibited him from playing in the
Engineers' contest versus Colgate Saturday, January 12.
Based upon the league's action, Burgdoerfer is not eligible to
compete in the Engineers' contest at Union Friday, January 18. The
suspension is assessed in accordance with ECAC Hockey Policies and
Procedures, and Rule 4, Section 10 of the NCAA Men's and Women's
