Commissioners Launch New Web Site

The commissioners of the six NCAA Division I men's ice hockey conferences launched a new web site April 9, on the eve of this year's NCAA Frozen Four. Aimed primarily at young hockey players contemplating their playing options, "playcollegehockey.com" will provide a wealth of valuable information for players and families wishing to pursue the dream of playing college hockey.

"Playcollegehockey.com is a one-of-a-kind college hockey information source that was specifically designed as a ‘go-to' resource for prospects aspiring to play college hockey," said Tom Anastos, Commissioner of the Central Collegiate Hockey association and President of the Hockey Commissioners Association. "This site will profile players past and present, the tradition and spirit that make college hockey so special, and all of the teams and leagues that comprise Division I hockey."

In addition to links to existing college hockey sites, including the six conference sites, "playcollegehockey.com" will provide a steady stream of breaking news from the world of college hockey, news made by present and past players and coaches. The site will also provide information about the NCAA, including but not limited to the application process and eligibility requirements.

"There is a ‘one stop shopping' element to the site," said Joe Bertagna, Commissioner of the Hockey East Association. "A young player who wishes to play college hockey can log on and learn everything from our game's history, to who are member schools are, to how to apply, as well as following the in-season results of current teams and players."

A number of features will be added to the site over the off-season, including sections on strength and conditioning, hockey instruction, summer camps, and eventually in-season ticket purchasing.

The six NCAA Division I men's ice hockey conferences are Atlantic Hockey (Bob DeGregorio, Commissioner); the Central Collegiate Hockey Association; College Hockey America (Bob Peters, Commissioner); the Eastern College Athletic Conference (Steve Hagwell, Commissioner); the Hockey East Association; and the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (Bruce McLeod, Commissioner).

The commissioners are meeting, along with much of the college hockey community, in Denver, CO, this week. The 2008 NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey "Frozen Four" commences on Thursday when Boston College meets North Dakota in one semifinal (4:00 p.m. MT) and Michigan takes on Notre Dame in the other (7:00 p.m. MT). The national champion will be crowned on Saturday evening.
