Dekanich Signs Contract with Milwaukee
MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- Colgate senior
goaltender Mark Dekanich (North Vancouver, B.C.) has signed an
amateur tryout agreement (ATO) with the AHL's Milwaukee Admirals,
the club announced on Monday, April 7. The Admirals are the top
minor-league affiliate of the Nashville Predators, which selected
Dekanich in the fifth round of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
Dekanich finished his Raider career after breaking five of the
team's seven career goaltending records, as well as five
single-season records. In early February, Dekanich put together a
shutout streak of 217:16, which ranks seventh in NCAA history and
is a new Colgate and ECAC Hockey record. He finished the 2007-08
season with a 2.16 goals against average and .924 save percentage,
both of which ranked second in the league and among the top-15 in
the nation.
Dekanich joins classmates Jesse Winchester (Long Sault, Ont.) and
Tyler Burton (Langley, B.C.) in the professional ranks. Winchester
made his NHL debut with the Ottawa Senators on Saturday, Mar. 29,
in Boston. Burton played his first professional game
on Friday, Apr. 4 with the AHL's Lowell Devils, and
recorded a power-play goal and an assist for the club. Burton also
skated in Lowell's games against Providence and Hartford last
weekend.
