Facing Off with Andrew Lord
ALBANY, N.Y. -- Ever wonder which team is the toughest to play against or which arena is most hostile to opposing players; what players are most respected by their peers; or what types of food, music and books are on the top of a player's list? You can find out each week as ECAC Hockey "faces off" with a student-athlete from each of the league's 12 member institutions. This week's featured student-athlete is Andrew Lord of Rensselaer.

1. Toughest all-around team to play
against?
In my three years we've always had trouble with
Dartmouth. They are a big team that plays a fast transition
game.
2. Toughest all-around arena to play
in?
Cornell due to the noise factor. It's also the most fun
though because of the great atmosphere.
3. Favorite ECAC road trip?
Clarkson/Saint Lawrence. A great rivalry with
Clarkson...and a great old barn at SLU. Longest in-conference
trip as well.
4. Best all-around arena atmosphere?
Come on now ... Obviously the Field House.
Great history and we draw the best crowds in the league.
5. Best all-around opposing player?
Last year I would have had to say David Jones from
Dartmouth. A big power forward that skates very well.
He was nominated for the Hobey Baker Award and ended up leaving
college early to sign with Colorado.
6. Best all-around opposing forward?
Other than (David) Jones I'd say Bryan Leitch from
Quinnipiac. His line with Nelson and Bates is tough.
7. Best all-around opposing
defenseman?
Last year I'd say Reid Cashman from Quinnipiac or SLU's
captain Drew Bagnall.
8. Best all-around opposing
goaltender?
Mark Dekanich from Colgate ... He's a big goalie that plays a
sound butterfly style.
9. Most memorable college hockey
game?
There's definitely a couple up there. Winning in Denver
last year ... My freshman year I had a goal in both games against
Union in back-to-back nights ... My sophomore season's Freakout!
was also a great night when we beat Brown and I had a goal and an
assist.
10. Biggest thrill as an ECAC player?
The parity within the league. Every team can
beat you on any given night. Games always come down to the
final few minutes. I love getting ready for a game knowing
that we'll have to put everything on the line to come out with a
W.
11. Favorite NHL team?
A silly question haha. I was born and raised in
Vancouver. I love the Vancouver Canucks and Trevor Linden is
my hero.
12. Favorite NHL player?
I have more than a few. Jarome Iginla, Joe Thornton, Eric
Cole, "The old" Todd Bertuzzi when he was with Naslund in
Vancouver. And the up and coming Dustin
Penner.
13. What are your plans after college?
To live the dream as long as possible and keep
playing.
14. Favorite college class/subject?
I'm really enjoying Strategy and Policy this semester
with Professor Corbett. The class is about running a company
and seeing things from a CEO's perspective. I'll also say my
bioterrorism class. Dr. Boylen is a big hockey fan!
15. Best book you've ever read?
Anything written by John Grisham. The Firm, The
Chamber....they're all great. Best hockey book though is
Thunder and Lightning by Phil Esposito. "Espo" as they call
him really tells it how it is.
haha
16. Best movie you've ever seen?
Departed, Anchorman, Saving Private Ryan....Anything with a
good plot.
17. Best all time TV show?
Seinfeld. Legendary!
18. Favorite musical artists?
Kenny Chesney ... Tim McGraw and Brooks and Dunn are
close behind though.
19. Person you most admire?
Definitely both my parents. Hardest working
people I've ever met.
20. For what are you most thankful?
Having great parents, a great sister and getting to
do the thing I love most everyday ... play Hockey.
21. If you could have any superpower...what
would it be and why?
To be invisible. Then I could go in the
coaches' office and hear what they really say about us when they
watch post-game video. haha
22. Favorite sport besides hockey?
I guess I better say football since we're in the
U.S. Haha, no the game is actually growing on me.
I just wish people were as fanatical about hockey.
23. What made you choose RPI?
I wanted a small school where hockey had a big following.
I also wanted to receive a good education.
24. One thing that fans wouldn't expect
about you?
I do not live in an igloo ... Winters' are actually
much colder here than Vancouver.
25. You are being exiled to a deserted
island and you are aloud to take 2 items and one of your
teammates. Which teammate and what 2 items are you bringing
with you and why?
I'd bring Peter Merth because he is an animal and
would know how to survive. The first item would be sunscreen
... I burn easy. The other would be a boat.
26. One word you would use to describe your
team?
Relentless
27. Most listened to song on your
Ipod?
Don't Blink - Kenny Chesney
