Cornell Erupts Offensively, Blasts Ottawa
ITHACA, N.Y. -- Colin Greening scored twice, while Evan Barlow
added two goals and an assist as Cornell defeated the University of
Ottawa 8-0 in a men's hockey exhibition Sunday afternoon at Lynah
Rink.
Barlow scored his first goal of the night at 2:19 of the first
period, ringing a shot off the left post and into the cage. The
score would remain tied through a very clean first 20 minutes, as
only an interference penalty on Ottawa resulted in Cornell getting
the only power play of the period.
In the second, a tripping penalty on Patrick Biloudeau resulted in
Cornell's second man advantage of the night, and this time,
Greening made it count, scoring his first marker of the night at
the 6:30 mark, deflecting in a shot from Blake Gallagher after
taking a pass from Barlow.
Seven minutes later, Gallagher found the back of the net to give
the Big Red a 3-0 lead, and the rout was on. Cornell added another
power play goal at the 16:11 mark of the period as Justin Krueger
slammed home a puck from the goalpost.
Cornell scored four more times in the third period, with Joe Devin,
Evan Barlow, Tyler Mugford and Greening each finding the back of
the net.
Troy Davenport got the start in goal for the Big Red, making 14
saves as Cornell posted its second shutout of the weekend. The Big
Red also had success on the power play, scoring on three of its
five man advantage opportunities.
Cornell opens the regular season on Saturday, traveling to
Rochester for a 7 p.m. contest against RIT at the Blue Cross Arena.
