Quinnipiac Overwhelms Ryerson
HAMDEN, CT -- Junior David Marshal (Buffalo, Minn.), pictured, scored a hat trick and added two assists as Quinnipiac defeated Ryerson University of Ontario, 10-0, in an exhibition game played in front of over 1,300 on hand at the TD Banknorth Sports Center. Quinnipiac opens the regular season on Tuesday, Oct. 16 when they host Bentley College in a non-conference tilt slated for 7 p.m.
An overall lopsided game from the start, five different Bobcats scored, highlighted by Ben Nelson's (Spokane, Wash.) two goals in the first frame. Eric Lampe (Madison, Wisc.) put Quinnipiac on the board first, scoring just over two minutes into regulation on assists from Marshall and Josh Duncan (Rochester, Minn.). Nelson scored his first goal of the game at the 5:13 mark after being set up by Bryan Leitch (Coquitlam, B.C.) and Brett Dickinson (Furlong, Pa.)
Dan Travis (Wilton, N.H.) put Quinnipiac on top, 3-0, on a pass from Matt Sorteborg (Anoka, Minn.) at the 8:15 mark, followed a goal from close range by Marshall on an assist from Lampe and Greg Holt (Mt. Sinai, N.Y.). Leitch would pick his second assist of the game on Nelson's second goal at the 12:31 mark. Leitch would score himself at the 17:01 mark on assists from Travis and Nelson.
In the second period, Zach Hansen (White Bear Lake, Minn.) scored on a pass from Marshall just under two minutes into the period. Marshall would score his second goal of the game at the 6:25 mark on a pass from Sorteborg and Holt. Travis scored his second goal of regulation on a pass from Leitch, Marshall buried his third goal of the game.
For the game, Travis and Nelson each finished with two goals and an assist while Leitch and Holt passed out three assists each, which Leitch scoring one as well. Lampe would finish with a goal and two assists for the game.
Pat McGann (Evergreen Park, Ill.) logged a full 60 minutes in net for Quinnipiac, stopping all 13 shots that he saw on the day.
